Michael, I agree, one of the things I love about the R-1 is that it takes a relativly short time to power up, and you have instant recording.

The recorder needs more than 20 seconds to start and after that, it opens the menu automatically. To turn it on, you'd have to wait for 20 seconds or so, after you've pressed the on button.
