Hi Kevin The program I use a lot to convert avi to mpg files for DVD is TMPGenc Express3 which has recently been taken over by Tsunami and I think relaunched with little chang. There are a range of programs in this series, but this program changes the filetypes and gives a professional finish. En route you can place filters etc. on the file to improve it. You can also do editing, removing unwanted bits etc. Have a look at the website
www.tmpg-inc.con It will let you see tmpgenc and tsunami products. Most are fairly accessible for Jaws and don't need too much jaws cursoring. Reading the manual shows the keypresses which are good when navigating the file in order to cut and set chapters. The program has a 30 day download trial time so you can try them out first. If you wish to try DVD author (normal or pro) this again is quite accessible in most bit with a bit of fiddling in one or two places, but it does not convert the files. It takes what you output from TMPGenc Express 3. (or the Tsunami equivalent) The Tsunami programs are more accessible in some places but the main chapter, cut and edit window can sometimes be difficult to get into - a script would be invaluable here. (When I learn how to do this Ill post it.) However once in this window then everything's available for use by the blind. I've tried a lot of programs and so far this is probably the best for accessibility - it's not perfect but with a bit of effort it will do a fair job, and of course it's seen by many as a simple but professional tool.
