Hi Donna. If you burn some of your on-board mp3's and play these through your hi-fi, is the quality any better than what you get with your patch cord connection? You raise a very good point Donna. Another list member has advised that JVC have usb connections these days, but as you said, if the on-board sound card is of low quality, then it would be a waste of time. The Griffin imac! Before worrying about the quality of the hi-fi equipment into which your sending your computer's output, I'd examine why, as you say, you get very poor quality doing that, yourself. Perhaps, your computer's sound card just isn't up to the job. for this purpose, I use the Griffin USB IMic, and use my onboard sound card only for JAWS.
