Well now, I suppose the term "expensive" depends on how you look at the machine, if its from a point of view of accessability only then yes, it is a bit expensive however if its from the point of view of a very good quality hard drive recorder which has good specs then perhaps its not too expensive but as I said, for most general applications, it seems to me that most people would be better of purchasing a computer with accessible TV tuner card etc as I said previously.
