One of the nice things about being a moderator is that it allows you freedom to post as you deem appropriate. Also, that prohibition was imposed by Jeff when he operated the list, and not Jonathan. Finally, I would distinguish between one time event announcements and recurring weekly ones. The former is news; the latter is relentless boring self-promotion.
