hi. Actually you can be in either the main window or equalizer window for the volume to go up and down with the arrow keys. I've not even had to go into the preferences and enable the volume control for it to work, but i did have to enable it to keep the 2 volumes separated. But remember, I'm using a dec-talk express which is a hardware synth so your results may varry from system to system. But i can confirm that the arrow keys do increase and decrease the volume, which is the end result of what the original person wanted to know.
