I had the exact same thing happen to me as Peter did, and to this day I 
still can't quite figure out what happened.  All I know is that even with a 
hardware synthesizer, a dectalk express which should not, in any way at 
all, be effected by the use of installing another program, after installing 
total recorder, JAWS appeared to run, but not enough to actually speak any 
information. All atempts to actually shut the program down o do anything 
with it failed. and again, like Peter, the only solution we could think of 
was to uninstall tr wich we did. and when rebooting the computer, JAWS came 
back again. and this is using JAWS 6.0 on my computer running windows xp home.
