I have used an SB Live sound card for quite some time under Windows 98 SE
and whenever I needed to record using a microphone I used a pre-amp and fed
the output of that into the line in socket.

I've decided to try out Skype so connected the microphone of a headset/mic
combo into the mic socket on the SB Live card. The mic works properly and I
can hear what's going in. However, I can't get the sound from the mic into
Skype or, for that matter, Sound Forge.

I looked at the volume utility and while it shows SB Live 9800 as an
input device and microphone appears in the list of inputs, it does not
appear in the dialog box which allows one to change the gain for cd, line in
or midi or to mute those.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Robert Nelson
