refer to, and do the same with whatever further guidance you're generous
enough to send my way. I'm relieved for you to acknowledge that the
interface isn't exactly friendly. It makes me feel a little less inept.
But as with other such things, just a good sense of how things work, and how
to move among the pertinent functions and controls with the Tab key and key
combinations usually gets it under hand, with a little practice. For most
such work, I'm thinking of getting myself a remaining copy of Easy CD/DVD
Creator 6 that I've been shown can still be found at Staples, among other
sources, for a nice, low price.

I meant option in the menus. I was trying to direct you to the activity
specific Help Files provided by Real PLayer.
Some of the functions that you have to tab to from the View menu are
duplicated in menu form in the Edit menu. I think particularly the "add
files" function.
I cannot sit down and do a real walk through right now, but I will do one
tonight and try to send it to you.
It is not a very friendly interface, but once you get used to it, it works
pretty well. It is a good way to transfer files to a minidisc player or to
an Ipod too.
I've taken the liberty of copying a "guide" posted on this list several
months ago that maybe helpful.
Let me know if I can help in any way. You helped me out once on another
list so I'm happy to return the favor.
BTW, I normally use Easy CD Creater version 4, 5 or 6 for most of my music
cd and data file creation. However, it is handy to know how to do this in
Real Player for converting tunes bought at the Real Music Store and for
transferring to other kinds of players.

Hi all,
As promised, I have returned with instructions on burning CD's using
RealOnePlayer.
First, before you even open RealOnePlayer, there is a hot key conflict
which must be resolved between JAWS and RealOnePlayer. This hot key
conflict is in reference to two control plus keys; specifically, ctrl up
arrow and ctrl down arrow. Those of you us who use RealOnePlayer will
doubtless recognize these hot keys as the quick access keys for volume up
and volume down. The difficulty which arises from leaving these hot keys as
they are assigned is that they cause interference with the non contiguous
file selection process. In RealOnePlayer, when you wish to burn a disk from
files not part of a play list, the non contiguous file selection is the best
rule to apply rather than contiguous selection. This is because it is
possible to get feedback on whether or not a file has been selected for
burning while using the non contiguous selection method. To resolve this
hot key conflict between JAWS and RealOnePlayer, do this.
1. Open the default JFW key board manager.
2. Press R till you hear, "RealOnePlayer".
3. Now, arrow down till you get to the hot keys mentioned above.
4. Now, to change tthe first hot key, press ctrl H.
5. At this point, press the new hot key you wish to have assigned to the
function.
6. Now, tab to and press Ok.
7. You will be asked if you wish to confirm whether you wish to make this
change. Yes is the default so press enter here.
8. Now, press alt S to save this change and then press alt F 4 to exit.
At this point, you are ready to begin your burning session. Let's deal
first with burning CD's from files you select which are not part of a
RealOnePlayer play list.
1. Open RealOnePlayer in the normal manner.
2. Press alt T for Tools.
3. Press B for "burn CD.
4. At this point, you will notice that, for some reason, JAWS will tend to
lose focus from this window. Because of this, you will find that it is
necessary to use alt tab to get back to the main RealOnePlayer window and
then alt tab to get back to the "media" window. Do this.
5. Now, press enter on the media window in to which you just reentered.
6. Now, you will find yourself in a file window in to which you can select
files. Just tab to "add files" and press enter.
7. At this point, you will be placed in the "my Library window" which will
show you all the files stored in the "my Library" collection. Assuming
however, that you do not want to select files from this point, tab to and
press enter on "browse".
8. Having done this, you can now browse in the normal manner to the folder
in to which you have stored the files you wish to be burned.
9. Here is where you will find the non contiguous file selection rule to be
the best choice for file selection. Select all files you wish burned.
10. Now, press enter on Open".
11. Now, you will find yourself in the CD burning window. This would be a
good time to put the blank disk in.
12. Wait about 30 seconds or so while RealOnePlayer detects the blank disk
and what kind it is. Then start tabbing threw the window.
13. You will notice that the first thing you will come to is the disk type
window. This is the point at which you determine the type of CD you wish to
burn. The "audio" choice will cause all files you have selected to burn on
to the disk in such a manner that they will play in any regular CD player.
The Mp3 choice will cause all files to be converted to MP3's, and so forth.
Make the choice you wish by arrowing to it.
14. Now, if you tab over, you will get to the options page. This is the
page at which you can control how a Cd is burned. You can have
RealOnePlayer insert a blank space of two seconds between tracks, cross fade
between tracks or leave no blank space at all. Make the choice you want
using the arrow keys.
15. Just tab threw the other controls making your selections as you wish
and then tab to and press Ok.
16. If you use a rewritable CD, "erase CD" will be within the burn window.
Otherwise, you may want to tab over to "driver options". Press enter on it.
17. Now, From this point you can make your driver use what is called "track
at once" (known as Tao) burning or "disk at Once" (Dao burning) Disk at
Once, which is the default in RealOnePlayer burns the disk in a single
session and then finalizes the disk and then, depending upon whether you've
set it up, ejects the disk after each burn. With in this window, you can
also select the burn speed you wish. Note that burn speeds are dependent
upon drive burning speed as well as the burn speed allowed by the disk in
the burner. Selecting "fastest available" will always choose the fastest
burn speed with out your having to select a burn speed manually. Make all
the choices you want here and press "ok".
18. Now, after pressing Ok, You may want to check using your JAWS cursor
to see your file list view. All your files should be selected, and, the
phrase "ready to burn" should appear by each one.
19. Now, at long last, tab to and press enter on "burn CD".
You will notice, to your delight, that a progress bar will show you the
percent of each file which has been burned on to disk and which files are
still pending. When done. Enjoy your disk.
Ok. Now for the process of how to burn CD's using a RealOnePlayer play
list. Don't worry, the steps are shorter for this one. That's because
we're working with a play list this time.
1. Open RealOnePlayer in the normal way.
2. Press alt V for "View".
3. Press L for "my library".
4. Now, arrow to the play list you wish to burn. Do not press enter here.
5. Now, tab to "copy to". Press enter on this.
6. This would be a good time to insert the blank disk.
7. Again, wait for about 30 seconds or so for detection.
8. Now, up arrow once only. Note that JAWS won't say anything when you do
this.
9. Now, Press enter.
10. When you here, "media window", press enter. You will notice that JAWS
does not lose focus when you do this.
11. You will again find yourself in a window where you can select files.
However, sense you all ready have chosen to burn a play list, just tab to
and press enter on "close this window".
12. Now, burn your CD by tabbing to "burn CD" as before and pressing enter
on it.
Note that the CD burning feature of RealOnePlayer is a premium feature
which comes with the paid for version and this feature is not available to
users of the free version of this program.

Thanks. I think you had a Jaws problem at one point, as I often do, and
didn't realize what you'd typed. Could you tell me what you meant to say by
"opiton in the nemus?"
Thanks. I have been in the functin to browse and direct Real Player to a
folder. I "saw" that and did it. But I keep getting lost tabbing around
trying to figure out how to complete a sequence, or know where I am. I just
don't understand why all those controls, list boxes and everything just keep
appearing no matter what I do, or think I've nearly finished doing. Hard to
explain. Very frustrating. I think I wish there were screen reader
instructions somewhere for it. No matter how many nice people explain these
functions to me, I keep getting lost trying to perform them.

In Real player, if you click on the Burn/Transfer button, you'll get a
pretty good "How to..." opiton in the nemus.
In the File menu there is an option for Real Player to find all the music
files on your computer. It doesn't move them, but creates links to them
from within Real Player.
If you want to navigate to the files in your My Music folder in the burning
process, click on the Browse button when selecting from where you want the
files.

I see. Thanks. Still, I guess you have to read some instructions in Real
Player to learn how to direct the Library where to look on your hard drive
for its music files, so that you can then use the burn function, and so
forth. Under which topic in the Help documentation is this instruction
found? Is that how you learned to use the Library when instructed to (for
burning, for example)? By reading Help instructions?

The My library option is simply a way of organizing the media files on your
pc in to groups. What I have done is to tell Realplayer where to search for
media files and every so often my library is updated. This would mean that
if I put more music files on the pc with whatever program I could find them
easily by using the my library function. It's a cataloging function for
media files.

c:\My Music? Is it sort of inextricably connected with things like building
playlists and such, which I haven't learned to do in either one of these
players, nor in Winamp, which I think has similar capabilities?

Yes. Just make sure your library is set up right before you do this. Hit
the alt-v key and choose burn-transfer. When you pick it you can choose
what you want from your library and tell it that you want to burn a cd(do
that first) and click burn cd. Oh, you need to tell it what kind of cd.
