Hi Sorry for the cross posting but I'm not sure as to which group this belongs.
I recently bought an HP Pavilion 819 computer with 512 memory and on board 7.1 sound. Regularly when booting up after playing the Windows XP sound and before going into the Jaws Screen Reader the machine sound cuts out and gives a terrific amount of distortion. I always have to reboot.
The same can happen after playing a CD for a while or playing a track on hard disk or a Real PLayer radio stream. The sound suddenly cuts. It happens on the analog and also the digital outs.
Is it hardware or is there the likelihood it could be software? I'm resigned to buying an Audigy with digital ins and outs as I think with its separate processing power the sound will then become reliable. However no point in shelling out for this if there's the likelihood of a software fault which can be corrected.
Any thoughts anyone?
Regards.
