Gary! MPG is short for MPEG which stands for Motion Picture Experts Group. It is a protocol for compressing Video and Audio. An MPG file has a video component, a audio component and information that defines what video goes with what audio. MPx is the audio component of a MPG file. In your case you have MP3. There are MP1 and MP2 and MP4 as well. When you load an MPG file into something like Sound Forge that is only designed to handle audio you get just the audio part of the MPG. I better stop.
