Of course, the manually-intensive way of tagging your files is to use the Alt-# dialog in Winamp.
Why tag? There are programs out there that use the tag information to build databases of MP3 files for advanced selection modes that would not ordinarily be available by filename only, unless your filename contained such things as album title, artist, year, etc.
