Hi there, I'm not any computer wiz either.
If you already have gold wave, it will do the recording, and track
splitting. Whether or not  it is better than Sound forge, I have no idea
I use gold wave, to record from tape deck, CD deck, and turntable. I have a
mixer between the decks and the computer, and have burnt compilation CD's on
the computer of tracks that I recorded.
