Subject: dvd question

i have just installed power dvd, but it is not working properly, it is not
the software's fault, it's mine, if i want to skip through a video, in other
words fast forward, how is it done? i recently picked up a dvd as a
giveaway in a daily newspaper, when i tried to fast forward through it using
what little knowledge i managed to procure it just didn't move forward, just
kept playing, a friend told me that this was because it was a copy, i'm
using windows 2000, and jaws four point five one, can anyone help, please,
regards joe.f
