Hi, Kevin.
Concurrent with posting to pc-audio, I had sent an e-mail to Nero tech support. They sent an automated e-mail thus far, which promised me that a living, breathing human being plans to read my question and eventually respond. Twenty four hours down, and counting. Tick, tick, tick. The demo time is running out.
The automated response suggested that I look at the updates page, which I did. At the updates page, Nero imparted to me the same information as you did regarding issues with Xp SP2 and provided a link to the update which they said should correct whatever compatibility problems existed between Nero and the new XP service pack. So, into the very same folder as the other Nero packages I had to download to get the full demo, I downloaded the Nero update. However, instead of the usual download dialog, Windows prompted me, yes or no, if I wanted to overwrite the Nero such and such dot exe file which, apparently, was already contained in the folder. I backed up a step and checked the release date of the update, September 20 I believe it was. This leads me to believe that I already have the updated file installed, since I had originally downloaded the Nero demo packs on the first of October.
I did download the file from the updates page. Which probably means I have to uninstall Nero, then reinstall it again. Whether the two exe files were identical or the updated file just had the same filename as the older file is not known. Given the way Ahead software "resets" its demos to coincide with the beginning of each new month, I suppose anything is possible.
So...the fun begins tonight: when I'm too tired to kick the computer into orbit. <smile>.
Thanks for the suggestion,
Lou

Subject: Nero users, has this ever happened 2 U?
Were you able to burn successfully before upgrading to SP2? And, have you been able to burn successfully since your upgrade to SP2?
I thought I'd seen somewhere that there were some issues with Nero and SP2 but thought their recent downloadds had sorted this.

Sent: Tuesday, October 12, 2004 5:32 PM Subject: # Hi, everybody. As prologue to buying Nero 6 Ultra, I have downloaded and installed the demo onto my computer. Installation was uneventful and I can open already existing dot wav files and edit them and even save what I've changed. However, when I try to record, Nero pops up the error message, "cannot open record module." I have already uninstalled Nero and downloaded and installed a new set of demo installation files. I had uninstalled Spy Sweeper, thinking maybe that was fouling something up. By the way, this is Windows XP SP2, Window-Eyes SP4, HP Pavilion computer with 512 mb RAM, 40 gig HD, 1.9 gig processor, Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 sound card. Computer is clean, no viruses or spyware. Only thing I haven't done--and I certainly hope Ahead software is not serious about this--is to uninstall any other sound editors that are currently and reliably working on my computer. Any ideas? Suggestions? Hammers and crow bars are out of the question!! Lol! Best, and thanks for any help, Lou Novath _______________________________________________ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org
