Hi Andy, the archos isn't your beast for the birdsong, unless you buy an expensive mic. You can run one, but you'll also need a mic preamp I'm thinking. Mics are something that I don't entirely understand. The cost of an archos on Ebay is about £100, it's the one I've got. Have a look at www.rockbox.haxx.se for all the information you could ever want, especially the comparison table between the different units.
