Hi. The only problem with asking a question like this is that you're bound to get a bunch of different answers, because everyone has different levels of expertese with their computers. What's accessible to me, might be a nightmare to you because you don't know how to go through the proper steps to do your task.
Basically, Nero works just fine so go for that. and if your friend has enough money, Sound Forge is the best hands down, absolutely no question for me. Now remember, that's for me, so don't take my word for it, have your friend try out some demos and see.
