Cindy, I am going to take a stab at your question. I am going to guess the option your 
talking about is after you have recorded A large file and are going to edit it. it may 
have a mark silence feature. I guess if you do have a 3 second pause on the album, it 
may split it into separate files, but it would have to be quiet. you couldn't have any 
turntable rumble. some person will be kind enough to give us deed back about your 
question.

I now have Total Recorder Professional Edition.  I was reading the help
section dealing with splitting files.  I have set Total Recorder to
automatically split files, and I checked the box which says something like,
"Auto create separate file for each software sound stream".  Is this the
correct thing to check if I'm recording through line in, from an album?  The
reason I'm not sure is that I understand that for this type of recording,
the recording preferences should be set to "Sound Board".
