Hi Steve, The number followed by X relates to the burn speed of the CD. This relates to the amount of times faster than standard play that your CD will be written. I.E. 40X means that the disk will be written at 40 times faster than it would play.
To burn at the very fastest speeds you need specific media. Your CD writer needs also to be capable of burning at that speed. Personally I tend to burn at about 30 speed, and in fact your CD writer will probably overwrite whatever you choose anyway. I think that optimal speed means that the programme will analyse the media you're using, and determine the fastest speed supported both by the media used and the optical drive. The faster you burn at, the more likely you are to create coasters: I.E. CD's that won' play because of errors. Hope that helps, Rob -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of stever2525 Sent: 24 May 2004 10:46 To: PC audio discussion list. Subject: cd burning question Hi, this is Steve. Burning cds is new to me. I am using Creator Classic, part of Easy Cd Creator, version 6.1.1.7. . I have been stumbling around, following menus, trying to learn all of the specifics. Anyway, when burning a cd I have the choices, (4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 40x, 48x, and optimal), what speed is optimal? How do I decide to burn what at which speed? Also, do I have any control at which speed a cd is ripped to my hard drive to be copied, and does that matter? Thank you very much. _______________________________________________ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Incoming mail is certified Virus Free.
