Sometimes I experience this as well. I have found, that if you minimumize the application, and then go back into, you can sometimes close it. If that doesn't work, hit the alt key, and arrow up or down to exit. That's what I do usually. Some of you may not know this, but I have been able to play windows media content with the latest real player version. It sounds really good too.
