I would like to run my program from the sd card, and I've noticed that if the program is running and the sdcard is taken out, the program is copied onto the main system memory. I can live with that, however I would like to be able to detect and delete the program from the main system memory when the program starts up.

Actually, Palm OS always copied the app from the SD card to system memory. It runs programs "in place", which means they aren't copied to RAM on startup, they're always in RAM. For SD cards, the apps are copied to RAM, but they're marked for deletion on exit by the launcher. This usually works, but it can be foiled by doing a system reset while the program is active.
