Greg,

I appreciate the response.

That matches half of the documentation that I have found, but not the other half, or what I observe in the real world.

Specifically, MetroWerks CodeWarrior "Targeting Palm OS.pdf" says "The Set Backup Bit check box lets you force the HotSync software
to upload a new copy of your application to the handheld device. Setting the backup bit signals that you have modified your
application." That doesn't make much sense to me.

And my applications all have the Backup Bit off, but all get HotSync'ed to the desktop.

Does anyone have real-world experience preventing their software from being backed up? Does it really work as PalmSource documents? What could I be missing/doing wrong?

Thanks again,

Ted

As the Palm OS Programmer's API Reference says in regards to the dmHdrAttrBackup bit (one of the standard database attributes), "The database should be backed up to the desktop computer if no application-specific conduit is available." Any database that doesn't have this bit set won't be backed up by the standard backup conduit.
