I just had another idea. I don't know how much you want to make automatic and how much manual. But if you don't mind a little bit of user manipulation, you could do the following.
In your application, have an option to translate a binary record into something like uuencode/uudecode, or some other binary-to-text algorithm. Your application could then "copy" the resulting text to the clip-board. Then, open up the mail program, write your message to your recipient(s) and then use the mail program's Edit menu to "paste" the binary-text into your E-mail. Send the message. Upon opening the received message, each of your recipients would then have to select the "binary text", and use the mail program's Edit menu to "copy" it to the clipboard. Then, the recipient would open your application and tap on a control or menu item to receive the record from the clipboard, translate the text back into binary, and then write it to the database. If you are writing your own mail or "send-record" client, you could probably automate almost all of the above steps and may not even have to use the clip-board.
