I've got 5r3 here. I've been developing Palm software for several years now, and never encountered issues with SDK versions. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I wonder if there's a solution to your problem which does not involve needing the older SDK...??
Oh, and the A6 printer is awful.... That's the worst printer I've ever had to deal with.
