Where Does HotSync Spend Its Time?

I have an idle question for those who've had occasion to find out:  
What is HotSync spending its time doing?  Obviously this varies by  
conduit,  but is there a common pattern? How much of its time does  
communication use (i.e. would USB 2 EDR make a significant  
difference)?  How much is Palm processor time? How much storage heap  
access?  How much is host computer processor and storage?
