So you'll just have to fake it. Put some layer in between that can massage your path names into "real" filenames. If you cant get it the way you want, just work with what you got. It shouldn't be too difficult to implement something hierarchical-looking. It'll be something like the *DOS-compatible* file system that Psion uses on their flash SSD's.
