You can protect a database and get a notification when an attempt to delete it is made.
But that said, what you describe is impossible because there is no such operation as renaming a pdb to a prc on the device. pdb and prc are the PC extensions for two different database types: record and resource. When installed in Palm RAM, there are no extensions. I guess you can toggle the resource attribute bit, but even if the OS lets you do that, you will get a crash very soon because the database formats are different--you will get an invalid record database. If what you're trying to do is to have a stub application that is then replaced with a full version, here is what I suggest. Make the stub application have a different database name than the full version, but the same creator id, and make it respond to the sysAppLaunchCmdSyncNotify launch code. If you want things to be transparent for the user, remember that the display name in the Launcher (the tAIN resource) can be different from the database name, so you can use the display name to hide the difference from the user. When sysAppLaunchCmdSyncNotify is received, check to see if the full version is there, and if it is, switch to it with SysUIAppSwitch and a custom launch code. Make the full app respond to that custom launch code by deleting the stub. -- For information on using the PalmSource Developer Forums, or to unsubscribe, please see http://www.palmos.com/dev/support/forums/
