Upstream does not accept pull requests, unfortunately, due to copyright concerns. See https://github.com/steinbergmedia/vst3sdk/issues/140 for another person's attempt to make changes to the cmake files. I think that upstream intentionally builds static libraries only, as the documentation suggests they expect this code to be used as a copylib; i.e., that developers will copy the code into their projects.
