Hi,

I won't call it akademic curiosity.
Let's say you have two rooms with a distance of 5km. In theory both network
connections are completly independent, but in real live there are a lot of
possible reasons, why they are not independent.
It might be just a human errors or a technical problem like a running spanning
tree.

In theses cases it is very helpful to have a technical independent solution
like heartbeat over fibre channel disk to avoid a split brain.
I'd like to have the idepentend way to prevent a split brain situation.
The network technology is one technology (even with redundant connections), so
a potential SPoF. A disk heartbeat would add a second technology.

Cheers,
Ulf
