You must go through 3.1 at least for the database. Just to be safe, I would perform a normal and complete upgrade to 3.1 as described in 3.1's UPGRADING document. Then check the app runs OK - perhaps create a VM snapshot at this point - and then proceed to upgrade to 3.2.
