Chris,
Can you confirm me that you did not create the image using
systeminstaller-oscar-2.3.10? I do not know if you saw that i released a new
version of systeminstaller few weeks or days ago. That version adds the
automatic configuration of the initrd in the image, that was a problem on
Debian, but i never had that problem on CentOS. Anyway, it maybe interesting to
see if the initrd problem creates the border effect or not (i do not think so
but how knows...).
You can try to modify manually the config file, it should look like:
------------
# systemconfig.conf written by systeminstaller.
CONFIGBOOT = YES
CONFIGRD = YES
[BOOT]
ROOTDEV = /dev/hda6
BOOTDEV = /dev/hda
DEFAULTBOOT = 2.6.18-92.el5
[KERNEL0]
PATH = /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.el5
INITRD = /boot/initrd-2.6.18-92.el5.img
LABEL = 2.6.18-92.el5
------------
Anyway, your situation is very weird because it seems that systemconfigurator
does not find the configuration file (for what i understand) and clearly the
configuration is there. I will try to investigate in more details that specific
issue.

Yes I do. This appears to control only booting - which is not the
problem. Here's the file;
------------
# systemconfig.conf written by systeminstaller.
CONFIGBOOT = YES
CONFIGRD = YES
[BOOT]
ROOTDEV = /dev/hda6
BOOTDEV = /dev/hda
DEFAULTBOOT = 2.6.18-92.el5
[KERNEL0]
PATH = /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.el5
LABEL = 2.6.18-92.el5
------------
Thanks,
Chris
