Hi everyone, I hope you enjoyed the holidays and had a great start to the year 2018! While I did go on vacation with my husband and kids, I made sure to prepare plenty of videos to provide you with plenty of inspiration even while away. Here's an overview:
1. Origami Tutorial: Undina Kusudama (Maria Sinayskaya) If you haven't folded anything in 2018 yet (Gasp! I haven't!), perhaps this wonderful kusudama designed by Maria Sinayskaya with lots of natural curves will entice you to start your folding year! Year-in-review: 2017 Origami Videos Before I tell you about the videos I posted after the first Saturday of December, let's take a minute (actually, a minute and 50 seconds) to review all the videos I posted in 2017. They included 28 tutorials, 10 ASMR videos, 5 time-lapses, plus 13 additional videos (like giveaways). Phew, 2017 sure included lots of happy folding! :) Video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/W3bxo3y2deE Video on happyfolding: https://www.happyfolding.com/reviews-2017_videos 3. Origami Christmas Tutorial / Fold with Felix: Corona Star (Maria Sinayskaya) As a Christmas special, I recorded a tutorial together with my 5-year old son, Felix. The video is in German, but you can enable subtitles (in English or German) by clicking on "CC" in the YouTube player. It's definitely a different type of tutorial, given that you can see both of us folding. Also, this was the first time Felix folded the model, so it's some live teaching action. :) Video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/QuJroTnNxBA Video on happyfolding: https://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-sinayskaya-corona_star Picture on happyfolding: https://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-sinayskaya-corona_star Again, thanks to Maria for allowing me to present her work, especially in this somewhat more unusual format. As noted above, be sure to check out her website, her Flickr stream and her book! 4. Christmas Origami Tutorial: Compass Rose (Dáša Ševerová) During the German origami convention in May 2017, Dáša showed me how to fold her compass rose, which had fallen in love with in her Flickr stream. I hope you enjoy the model as much as I do - and it's surprisingly easy to fold! Video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/1DR_404gJAY Video on happyfolding: https://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-severova-compass_rose Picture on happyfolding: https://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-severova-compass_rose Be sure to check out Dáša's Flickr stream, which includes many treasures - just like the compass rose I discovered there: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dasssa/33156067813/ And of course a great thanks for showing me how to fold the model and allowing me to present it to you in a video! 5. Christmas Origami Tutorial: A Star In All Of Us (Mukul Achawal) Mukul is a young, Indian designer, with whom I started emailing some years ago. He sometimes sent me photos of his folds and later his own designs. So it's a special pleasure to feature one of his designs, a beautiful, modular star - both in a video tutorial and in pdf diagrams. Video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/FmE1sFAUf9M Video on happyfolding: https://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-achawal-a_star_in_all_of_us Picture on happyfolding: https://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-achawal-a_star_in_all_of_us Diagrams on happyfolding: https://www.happyfolding.com/diagrams?designer=699 Thanks to Mukul for sharing his designs with me, as well as allowing me to present his work in a video - and perhaps more in the future. :) 6. Origami Basics Tutorial: How to cut a 1 by √3 rectangle from a square Mukul's "A Star In All Of Us" uses 1 by square root of 3 rectangles, but other designs do, too. So I figured it was worth posting a quick video that shows how to easily cut rectangles with that ratio from a square. I hope it helps you out! Of course, you can also combine it all - by folding with friends and family. That's definitely also good for your mental health, and as long as you sit straight, your back won't suffer too much, either. :) Best wishes and happy folding, -- Sara
