I want to sign and date a recent fold (that sounds weird) of one of my
models. The thing is I created the model in 2013 but this is a 2017 fold.
What do you suggest I do? If it were you, would you put just one of the
years? If so, which one and why that one? Would you put them both? Would
you put some kind of abbreviation to tell them apart? The fold isn't that
big and I want the signature and date to be discrete.

Hi Gerardo,

I sign and date artworks (when I remember to do so) with the year that I
completed the artwork. It doesn’t matter if I completed the design in an
earlier year, or even if I started the folding in previous years; the date I
use is when I *finished* it.

I think that’s pretty common practice in the art world: just one date, and it’s
when you finish the artwork.

Also, I do try to keep the signature discrete, usually small and on the inside.

HTH,

Robert
