Dear Dave and all Ori-l'ers

Some more information about the similar Norishige Terada and Hisashi Abe 60
degree units from bronze rectangles.

Norishige Terada was a member of Yoshihide Momotani's NOA Osaka group: I
was introduced to him at the group when I first visited Japan in 1980, and
he gave me a large supply of ready-prepared bronze rectangles so I could
experiment with his ideas. I still have a few of these somewhere.

Diagrams of the Terada unit were published on pages 56-63 of SUTEKI NA
ORIGAMI (small objects and furniture) ISBN4-8385-0195-1 published by
Musashi Shobo, Osaka 1982 (authors Momotani and Terada). This is now out
of print.

Hisashi Abe's 60 degree unit is published on pages 48-51 of SUGOIZO ORIGAMI
ISBN 4-535-78409-4 (2003) available from Amazon here: goo.gl/awfrey This is
a lovely book, showing unit constructions each one fitting inside another,
in the style of Russian Matrioshka dolls.

Terada's unit has folded pocket edges, whereas Abe's has raw pocket edges.
Abe's unit is therefore larger than Terada's when they are folded from
identically sized bronze rectangles. Both units connect in exactly the same
way, and in the two books mentioned above a large number of possible
constructions are shown.

In 2007, my wife Assia also independently discovered a unit similar to
Abe's (diagrams as yet unpublished). She uses the unit to make coasters, a
letterfold and a tetrahedron. She is very proud of a related double colour
Diamond Coaster which uses a double bronze rectangle, as well as a related
snap hexahedron and multi purpose unit.

I see Norishige Terada has other tempting books available too: worth
investigating I think!
