I just saw another tantalizing new book in a bookstore and picked one up for some kids in my extended family. I plan to get another copy for myself! Kathy Ceceri Make: Paper Inventions, Machines Machines That Move, Drawings That Light UP, Wearables and Structures You Can Cut, Fold, and Roll San Francisco: Maker Media, 2015 http://craftsforlearning.com <http://craftsforlearning.com/make.htm> I'd classify only a few of the projects as origami as such -- Paper Dragon Curve Fractal, Action Origami Robot Worm, Open Weave Paper Link Wristband and Basket (simple to high-intermediate). But the book has lots of great ways to make paper, techniques to try (quilling, e.g.) and very interesting things to make out of paper. Excellent photographs and drawings. Very clear, engaging directions and discussions of the science/engineering principles behind the projects. You can see some sample projects at the author's website: http://craftsforlearning.com/make.htm Our next milk carton will go to trying this sort-of-origami project, if only to try out the ingenious lock: http://homeschooling.about.com/od/finearts/ss/Recycling-for-Kids-Turn-a-Milk-Carton-Into-a-Coin-Purse.htm Karen PS A delay in posting this allowed me to copy this to Kathy Ceceri, who sent me this reply: "Hi Karen (and friends) -- Thanks for bcc'ing me on your email! I just wanted to let you all know that I am available to do workshops at libraries in NJ. Feel free to check out my website or have your local librarian contact me for details. And let me know how you like the projects in my Paper Inventions book! ...kathy" > > Karen Reeds, co-ringleader, Princeton Public Library Origami Group.
