Kunihiko Kasahara explained in his book 'Amazing Origami' that this showed
the mathematical quality that if you divide an area in half with area 1 n
times, then 1/2 + 1/2^2 + 1/2^3 .... + 1/2^n = 1. The model in particular
was an improvement on Froebel's idea of dividing areas in half by
blintzing, and was created by Jun Maekawa. Kasahara noted that if you
reverse the creases along the legs of the model, then it becomes 3D :)
