Harry Weiss, Commerce Dept. spokesman

Harry Weiss, 99, a spokesman for the Commerce Department for 26 years, died
June 12 at his home in Bethesda, Md. The cause was acute renal failure,
said a daughter, Martha Weiss.

Mr. Weiss was born in Newark, N.J. He wrote for Cleveland’s Plain Dealer
newspaper before joining the Commerce Department as an information officer
in 1946. He was the agency’s chief news officer when he left in 1972 and
then spent two years as a news editor for the National Academy of Sciences.
He was a founding member of the Enamelist Gallery and a past president of
the National Enamelist Guild and a local chapter of Parents without
Partners. He published two compilations of essays and poems in his 90s.

I checked the Origami Database and found 18 models created by Harry. Three
were published in Harbin's Secrets of Origami: Tumbling Chan, Kiwi, and
Ruby Throated Hummingbird. Harry attended a meeting of Capital Folders
Origami in the late 1980s or early 1990s.
