Dear Ori'lers, I've just shaken off the last of my jet lag after returning from the excellent Origami Bogota convention which was held 2 weeks ago, where I was privileged to be the special guest.
This was a delightful event, well organised by the local group Amigos Plegadores ( http://amigosplegadores.blogspot.co.uk/2008/08/acerca-de-nosotros.html), headed by Maria Mercedes Acosta. She cared for me generously and willingly during my 12 day stay in Colombia. She and other members of the group showed me round the local sights and I was able to explore several fascinating corners of this beautiful country before and after the convention. Some pictures of the convention (excuse the rather average quality!) here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/brill/sets/72157654756187702 Here's a larger collection, including the tourist bits: https://www.flickr.com/photos/brill/sets/72157654359672370 At the end of my stay we had a picnic in a green Bogota park which was a real highlight! I look forward to meeting you all again, Amigos Plegadores! I'd enthusiastically recommend any origami enthusiast to visit future Origami Bogota conventions. It was a long journey for me, but it was a trip I shall never forget. Better pictures of the convention by Jorge Jaramillo have already been notified on the list: https://www.flickr.com/photos/georigami/sets/72157651918371403 . I think this is the giraffe which Xander is referring to: https://www.flickr.com/photos/georigami/18606706901/in/album-72157651918371403/ It's actually mine: see here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/brill/132877466/in/album-72057594113837032/ Lots of people seem to like this giraffe, and I'm frequently asked for diagrams, which I don't have! If you want to fold it, I recommend playing with the horse design illustrated here ( http://brilliantorigami.com/diagrams/) which is a close cousin. Try making a smaller head nearer to the end of the flap, narrowing and adjusting the angle of the neck, and you should get pretty close. Happy Folding and Conventioneering to all! Yours Dave Brill http://brilliantorigami.com/
