Hi everyone, 1. New tutorial: "Celtic Circle" by Robin Scholz
this month I'm demonstrating you how to fold the "Celtic Circle" tessellation discovered by Robin Scholz. As the two main procedures are open back hexagon twists and open back triangle twists, the pattern includes many off-grid creases. Rather than precreasing these, in the video I show you how to add them as you collapse the pattern. In my opinion this is a much more fun folding experience and with a bit of practice it's actually easier to get preciser results than with the precrease method. So do give it a try. Plus, the tessellation is absolutely stunning to look at, especially back-lit! Your Origami Folds May 2015 In April/May Your Origami Folds was all about a duck designed by jassu. You can almost hear them quak. :) Video on happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/your_origami_folds-2015_05 Video on YouTube: http://youtu.be/X70Y6VD312M Tutorial for the duck designed by jassu: http://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-jassu-duck or https://youtu.be/boxbMl8lDBc If you'd like to contribute to the series, too, here are the deadlines for the next two videos: June 13th 2015 for the Coral Star designed by Kate Lukasheva ( http://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-lukasheva-coral_star or http://youtu.be/GBtKVRUwlv4 ) July 11th 2015 for a tessellation featuring at least one Celtic Circle molecule by Robin Scholz -- combine it with other patterns as you like! Simply submit your photo by sending me an email including a statement that allows me to use that photo in a video. I look forward to seeing your folds! 3. What to Fold May 2015 As I already announced in last month's email What to Fold May 2015 was all about flowers. I made an effort to suggest lots of quite different looking flowers. And while I was inspired to choose this theme due to Mother's Day, we can fold flowers all year round - especially so during spring/summer time! Video on happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/what_to_fold-2015_05 Video on YouTube: http://youtu.be/8IEj4-7r1nI As a sneak peek, next week's What to Fold will be all about tessellations. So if you're looking for more tessellations to fold - or videos to really get started with them - check my channel a week from now for some video suggestions. 4. Subtitles I'm always for making things more accessible. In the video world, an important way of increasing accessibility is adding subtitles or closed captions. It does take some time to add these, though, and therefore I've only done it for a fraction of all my videos. And foreign language are even harder, because you have to be fluent in a language to do these. Thankfully, YouTube has a new feature that allows viewers to help video creators with this process in an online tool for adding subtitles and translating them to other languages. So I decided to ask for help - and the response has been absolutely amazing! So many more videos now have English subtitles, and translated subtitles are being added, too, as we go along. Thanks to everyone who helped and do check the videos out here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL20D31DFE8C9394FC Plus, if you'd like to help, too, here's a playlist of tutorials for which subtitles aren't completed yet: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzWZXuW4WQWC4Nv4sn6WA35ATh09lBwkj - either there's no subtitles yet, or the ones that are there aren't complete (e.g. not the whole video is done, or the lines are still too long; they should not be longer than one line in the video preview). I appreciate all of your help a lot! Here are the two videos I posted regarding this initiative, by the way: First announcement with demo: http://youtu.be/pBKxiG0DrbQ or http://www.happyfolding.com/vlog-contribute_subtitles_win_prizes Thank you: http://youtu.be/5kEmNgoYtXk or http://www.happyfolding.com/vlog-you_are_amazing_and_sneak_peek 5. OrigamiUSA In a mere two weeks I'll be attending the OrigamiUSA convention for the first time. I'm extremely excited, not just because I'm so honored to be special guest there, but simply because I love attending conventions and I'll be able to meet a lot of people I haven't before. If you're attending, too, or live in the area and want to meet up, do get in touch with me. All the best and happy folding, -- Sara
