At the train station today I saw the ticket agent deliberately crumpling up
dollar bills into balls. I asked him why. He said that brand-new dollar bills
keep sticking together. But If he crumpled a new bill, flattened it out, and
then stacked it on top of a smooth bill, and so on, always alternating crumpled
with the smooth, he could make change much more easily. (He had learned the
trick by watching someone else do it.) it probably makes the job slightly less
boring, too.
