OpenWrt does not support building and using traditional initrd images.
You can however compile a ramdisk target, this will generate a Linux
image which contains the ramdisk embedded into the kernel so you just
have to load the Linux image.

Within menuconfig, choose the "Target Images --->" menu and tick the
"ramdisk --->" option there.

Once compilation is finished use the "bin/openwrt-x86-generic-vmlinuz"
image to netboot OpenWrt.
