Hello Mathias,
2 workarounds were suggested:
One was not acceptable as is defeated the purpose of a router asking
to configure static routes on EVERY host in a LAN
The second might work with some careful re-configuration of the
firewall. It did not in my case because the complexity of the network
involved required more effort than it makes sense to provide on my
end, again it defeats the purpose of a router.
Currently I am using a SNAT workaround, however this works only for
networks directly connected to a second router, with more hops (as it
happens with VPNs) it does not work.
I have been banging on to this issue since I moved to LEDE 4 weeks
ago, driven by a better BtHomeHub5 support.
I tried to solve the issue myself as in most cases, but I could find
only workarounds.
The workarounds were acceptable until I started adding VPNs with other
sites and that is were the workarounds show their cracks.
For a while I wondered how could this have not been noticed. Perhaps
most people use a single router that does very little routing after all.
At which point I reported it first through the LEDE mailing list as a
question (I received no reply, I wonder if the message got through in
the first place), and then via a bug report once I saw no reply
through the list.
The replies through the bug report lead me to believe that there was
not an appetite to revert to a proper router capability as in OpenWrt.
Previously I had not totally positive experiences when I reported
issues, or contributed changes (like IP Virtual Server Load balancer:
I still apply my patches and build my own version because the change
was never accepted in OpenWRT, or BtHomeHub5 LEDs no longer working,
on that I was told "it is by design"). So I expressed my frustration,
dusted off OpenWrt trunk and now I am running Designated Driver 50078
built with IP Virtual Server for Load Balancing on my Netgear router
(also manually reconfigured with a 128MB flash filesystem because the
patch to make it so large was never included in the mainstream)
Please note that I make little distinction between OpenWrt and LEDE.
I understand any conversation about free, etc. I am very grateful. I
would be happy to contribute if it somebody could accept an hand over
of the Load Balancer project.
Best regards,
Mauro

Hello,
Is OpenWRT going to backport support for BtHomeHub5 from LEDE?
This router is very well supported in LEDE, whilst support is only
basic in
OpenWrt,
LEDE implemented some broken changes in the firewall that prevent
basic
routing (it defeats the primary purpose of a router!), so I would
like to
use OpenWrt where routing works as expected, but I need to run it
on BT Home
Hub 5 routers.
have you reported this to the LEDE guys?
Yes, the bug is reported[0] and it's being worked on. No idea why
Mauro is that eager.
Time between providing the full config files and a proposed fix was
<2h. And as usual everything for free.
