dropbear supports SCP but not SFTP. I would guess WinSCP is trying to use SFTP 
since it'll do just that--die shortly after logging in.

 

SCP works fine out of the box for me.

On my AA 12.01:

# which scp
/usr/bin/scp
# opkg search /usr/bin/scp
dropbear - 2011.54-2

Does "ssh target" work?  Can you run verbose mode (ie: "scp -v myfile 
host:/tmp/target")?  Can you scp to other machines (insuring that your winscp 
is working)?
