I noticed that my UBNT Nanostation M gear running AA r39154, both 5.8GHz
and 2.8GHz flavors, seem to be selecting long preambles for themselves for
adhoc mode. Specifying short_preamble = 1 in the VIF's entry in
/etc/config/wireless appears to have no effect. I do observe the 2.8GHz
Nanostations using short preambles with clients in AP mode.

Enabling encryption on these VIFs does not appear to affect whether short
preambles are or are not used on the interface. This presumably rules out
the possibility that hostapd/wpa_supplicant is forcing long preambles.

Are short preambles not possible in adhoc, i.e. not allowed per 802.11
protocol spec, and/or does the mac80211 library itself perhaps enforce long
preambles?

Thanks.
