Got it done,
For future reference to some one who reads the list here is the procedure !

Here are the steps to take a Netgear WNDR3700 back to factory

1. Download factory Firmware
NetGear wndr700 page with firmware link on
it<http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/11640>and Factory
Firmware Download Page <http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14244>
1a If you are on an OS that does not have TFTP build in, download a copy
somewhere (Mac OS has it built in)

2. Plug you desktop/laptop (hereafter referred to as machine) directly into
port 1 of the router
Note - this is _not_ the yellow wan port

3. Set your machines IP statically to 192.168.1.2, don't worry about the
rest

4. start tftp from a command window to your router in the directory where
you downloaded (or copied) the factory firmware.
tftp 192.168.1.1
On mac you then get a tftp prompt
tftp>
type in the following command, but DO NOT HIT ENTER YET
on the put command
 *Code:*
verbose
bin
put WNDR3700-V1.0.4.68NA.img


And make sure that filename matches whatever you downloaded above.

5. In a second window start a ping to the router
ping 192.168.1.1

6. Power on the router

7. Watch that second window with the ping - as soon as you see a response go
back to the first window and hit return on your waiting tftp window
you will see lots of line like the first 2 below, but once you
see the 40 bytes you know you are good to go.

8. When the tftp completes, type quit in the tftp window.

9. Let the router sit for a couple minutes powered on - say about 5 minutes.

Then test the admin gui
