There are obvious reasons not to get the patches into trunk. The heaviest reason - patches break b43, partly alter b44, tg3. Another reason - still no feedback from Broadcom regarding licensing on their ethernet gmac driver, therefore even less points in incorporating partial support for new SoC at the same time breaking all the bcm47xx working ones. New bcm4716' axi-based SoC support should and will be (working on that) introduced without breaking already functional hardware and software. Whoever interested in bcm471[678] support with mainline kernels and/or Openwrt trunk, following are some links to relevant information and discussions: 1. Broadcom-on-axi erom dumps (especially for bcm4716a0 and bcm4748); 2. Broadcom-on-ssb SBIDLOW, SBADMATCH[0123], SB[IT]PSFLAG registers' dumps for cores' configuration space (especially for chipcommon-less and/or extif-based); Less required but still wanted more information on bcm53115 switch programming. And finally would be great if you could find some time and message Broadcom/ASUS/D-Link/Linksys/etc. support asking for GPL-compliant gmac driver or documentation.
