Actually there are several good reasons, but the number one reason, now,
is that we can't break people who are using the overlay case (and many
are).  Also important is that the overlay uses the same infrastructure
as jffs overlay, and have a delta from the rom is useful.  As is revert
to factory defaults by erasing the overlay.  There were others, but
those are the ones that stood out for me.

Oh, and BTW once I got over my 'I don't know kernel fs stuff' attack,
finding the bug really wasn't that hard, so Kaloz was right to push it
back to me.
