I wonder why the package mac80211 in the current svn trunk uses
compat-wireless-2.6 version 2008-08-06
(from http://www.orbit-lab.org/kernel/compat-wireless-2.6/2008/08)
for linux kernels < 2.6.27 instead of a more recent
compat-wireless-2.6-old?

I want to compile the ar9170 driver (Atheros USB 802.11(a)bgn WLAN
stick) for an ASUS WL-500gD. This driver needs a recent
compat-wireless-2.6-old or a compat-wireless for kernel >= 2.6.27,
but I assume it requires less effort to switch to
compat-wireless-2.6-old compared to running a 2.6.27 kernel on brcm47xx.

Is it worth to provide a patch to use compat-wireless-2.6-old in
mac80211 or will it break other things?

/Joerg
