Well bad news. I was able to build the 0.9.4 madwifi driver in a 7_07 tree.
However once I installed the package, my system threw a kernel panic at
driver initialization.
I have a spare Avila board coming in a few days which will allow me to
play around in safety with this. It may be that with a more recent
kernel it'll work.
