Hi,

Ubuntu 24.04 has 2.6.9, I think.

22.04 predates 2.6.0 release (January 2023), and by Debian/Ubuntu policy
they will never do major upgrades inside a LTS train - so 22.04 will
(usually) get all security relevant fixes to 2.5.x, and might get
backports of non-security fixes that go into 2.6.x, but will never
have a "2.6.x-0ubuntu"

That said, there's the upstream repo maintained by Frank / Samuli,
so you can have 2.6.x from there if needed

  https://community.openvpn.net/openvpn/wiki/OpenvpnSoftwareRepos

... but unless there is a compelling reason, using a 2.5.x release
in a LTS distribution (where the distribution maintainer makes sure
relevant bugfixes are included) is usually "good enough".

In the other thread, 2.4.0 was used, and we know there are tons of
issues in each .0 subrelease - the release/2.4 train went up to
release 2.4.12 with bugfixes discovered in the maintenance lifetime
of 2.4...

As an outlook, 2.7.0 is planned to be released in time so that
"Debian-next" can pick it up :-) - while Ubuntu does their thing and
never talks to us, the Debian maintainer is quite good in coordinating
with us (upstream developers).
